Press release Plain text

  • STRABAG SE helps broaden alliance for corporate climate protection
  • Aim of foundation: promote climate protection and the sustainable use of natural resources

Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft, the German CEO Alliance for Climate and Economy, can now count on the support of STRABAG SE. With the beginning of the year, the construction technology group became a sponsor of the initiative, which is actively committed to meeting the climate targets in Europe and Germany. STRABAG recently set itself the goal of becoming climate neutral along the entire value chain, from quarrying to building construction and civil engineering all the way to facility management, by the year 2040. Important aspects of the company’s collaboration with the foundation will include the topics of circularity and the circular economy, sustainable building materials and low-carbon processes.

“The construction industry must become a driving force behind the transformation towards climate neutrality. To achieve this goal, all players must pull together. We are very pleased that STRABAG SE has chosen to become a sponsor of Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft. With STRABAG, we have a strong partner on board who will help drive the development towards a climate-friendly, sustainable and productive construction industry,” says Sabine Nallinger, Executive Director of Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft.

STRABAG “Work On Progress” – in the spirit of sustainability
With its message to “Work On Progress”, STRABAG has firmly anchored the ideal of sustainability within its organisation. At present, the company is hard at work to build the future of construction in more than 400 sustainability and 250 innovation projects. The company uses low-carbon concrete in its construction projects, for example, which can reduce emissions during structural works by up to 50 percent. STRABAG is creating Circular Construction Hubs that will employ urban mining methods to use resources more efficiently and reduce landfill capacities. Enormous potential exists in the field of road construction as well, with innovations such as air-purifying asphalt or high-quality recycled asphalt.

“The construction sector is responsible for around 40 percent of global carbon emissions and half of the demand for raw materials. Because of this, we have a very special responsibility to shape the future of construction in a sustainable way – through novel ideas and innovative processes, with greater efficiency, and by using the potential of digitalisation. Our aim is to work together with Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft to advance these topics and drive them forward – in a constant dialogue with society and policymakers. And always with our goal in mind: to become the most sustainable construction group in Europe,” explains Klemens Haselsteiner, CEO of STRABAG SE.

Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft, the German CEO Alliance for Climate and Economy, was founded in 2011 under the name Stiftung 2° and renamed in 2021 to Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft. The mission of the non-profit foundation is to promote climate protection and the sustainable use of natural resources by activating and focusing the responsibility, innovative strength and problem-solving skills of German companies. The foundation works with policymakers to identify specific opportunities for the transition towards climate neutrality. It operates independently of political parties and across sectors and industries. STRABAG SE

STRABAG SE is a European-based technology group for construction services, a leader in innovation and financial strength. Our activities span all areas of the construction industry and cover the entire construction value chain. We create added value for our clients by taking an end-to-end view of construction over the entire life cycle – from planning and design to construction, operation and facility management to redevelopment or demolition. In all of our work, we accept responsibility for people and the environment: We are shaping the future of construction and are making significant investments in our portfolio of more than 250 innovation and 400 sustainability projects. Through the hard work and dedication of our approximately 74,000 employees, we generate an annual output volume of around € 16 billion. Our dense network of subsidiaries in various European countries and on other continents extends our area of operation far beyond the borders of Austria and Germany. Working together with strong partners, we are pursuing a clear goal: to design, build and operate construction projects in a way that protects the climate and conserves resources.
